This document provides suggestions on bin location naming as well as information to prepare multi-bin locations and import the data using Sage's Visual Integrator Module:

  1. Bin Location master import file.
  2. Primary bin location import file
  3. Quantity on hand setup using a physical count import file. 
Overview

Training, testing and preparation for go live should be done in a test company which should be a recent copy of your live Sage environment. When you are ready to go live all of the multi-bin settings including the bin locations can be copied and re-imported into to your live company. 

Below you will find information on bin location naming recommendations and how to prepare data to import bin locations.

Attached are sample templates of the spreadsheets needed for the bin location, primary location and physical count import files.

 

Naming Conventions
  • Your bin location code size is up to 15 characters.

So the bin location sort for numbers in the code come out as intended please remember to zero fill numbers in the bin location from the left.  For example – for a warehouse that has 12 bin locations:

                A01A, A02A, A03A, A04A, A05A, A06A, A07A, A08A, A09A, A10A, A11A, A12A

  • Bin location codes can be alpha-numeric. 

    For Example: A10U, A10M, A10L

    Or

    A-100-30, A-100-20, A-100-10

    As long as the L is lower, M is middle and U is upper

    AND\OR 10 is lower, 20 is middle and 30 is upper

When using Alpha-row naming: if you have less than 26 rows, the rows can be single Alpha-numeric ‘A’, we do not suggest using Alpha-row naming when the warehouse has more than 26 rows.

Numeric rows: If your warehouse has more than 99 rows then you would use 003.

  • Sort Codes can be utilized for Picking using Scanco Warehouse. 

Scanco’s Confirm Picking, Wave Picking and Order Picking applications can leverage the Multi-Bin Print Sort codes to create unique routes through the warehouse including allowing for certain bins to be skipped.For additional information on sort codes please see the following article: https://scanco.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115015334167 

  Common Multi-Bin Visual Integrator Import Jobs

Bin Location Master File Import -(see attached template)

We will want to build a bin location master import file. This will be used to import into both your test company during the testing and training phase and into your live company when you are ready to go live on the software.  In the Excel Spreadsheet (template attached)- Create Columns with WarehouseCode and BinLocation Code. A third column can be added to designate the bin location type. When the location type is not designated for a bin it will be set to the default designation of "P" or Pick location type.  If you have location types other than Pick location types these should be designated in the location type column. The location Type for Overflow/Backstock locations is “V”. Other bin location types are S=Staging, F=Floor, O=Other. 

For the Bin Location master file VI import job: 

Select Table: Pre v2019 - IM404_BinLocation, v2019 and above - IM_140MB_BinLocation

Required fields are: Warehouse Code and Bin Location

 

 

Primary Pick Location (assigned to an Item) Import File (see attached template)

Primary bin locations are usually the location where you want your pickers to pick from first and usually stores goods at the standard unit of measure.  You can replenish/rotate inventory from other locations like Overflow locations when minimum and maximum quantities are set. The primary location cannot be assigned to more than one item. Primary locations can be initialized when we turn ON a warehouse but sometimes this data in Sage is not fully accurate for this. This multi-bin initialization would pull the bin location that is set in the items reorder point maintenance setup.If this is not accurate then this can be cleaned up later in your multi-bin for item options or you can import a clean list right away. 

If you choose to import a clean list for primary locations. You will create a second import file. In the Excel Spreadsheet - Create Columns with WarehouseCode, BinLocation Code and Item Code. If you desire the system to provide primary location replenishment you can designate a column for Minimum Replenishment Quantity and Maximum Replenishment Quantity. You can import multiple times if you need more time to work out Minimum and Maximum Quantities.  

For the Primary Location and replenishment quantities Import Job, select Table: Pre v2019 - IM404_ItemLocation, v2019 and above - IM_140MB_ItemLocation

Required fields are: Warehouse Code, Item Code and Bin Location.

Optional fields to setup replenishment: Minimum Quantity and Maximum Quantity

Optional fields to case pack size in Overflow: Case Pack Quantity

 

Physical Count Import (see attached template)

One option to move inventory from the default "START" bin into the correct bin location in Sage is to import physical counts by bin location while in the Test phase and/or when you go Live.  

 

To create the Import job for physical counts, select table: Pre v2019 - IM404_Physical, v2019 and above - IM_140MB_Physical

Required fields are: Item Code, Warehouse Code, Bin Location and Quantity Counted.

LotSerialNo is required if the item is Lot Serial valuation.

Note: Bin Location should be blank (null) if disabled from Multi-Bin and WMS.
