Applies To:

Remote warehouses or locations that are not on the same network as the rest of WA.

Example

Server, SQL, Listener, and scanners are all based in same location.  ACME company is expanding to a new warehouse in Puerto Rico, but this new warehouse is not on the network.  What will the Puerto Rico office need in order to use the WA solution to connect?

Solution

The best way (and might even be the only practical way) is to configure firewall-level VPN link between Puerto Rico and the main site.  Then the settings of the handhelds will be the same.

We’ve had a few clients working with remote databases and we’re discovering more and more that it is a better architecture to have listener closer to the database than the handhelds. The amount of traffic between the handhelds and the listener is significantly smaller than amount of traffic between the listener and the database.
